Traditional metal casement window restoration can involve the following works.
After repairs the frames are cleaned, primed with a rust-inhibiting primer, and then painted or powder-coated for a new finish. The original glass is often removed, cleaned, and reinstalled with new glazing putty or sealant, as needed.
Working closely with a master blacksmith we have the capability of providing new or direct copies of the old broken hardware if an adequate fix cannot be undertaken. We will always try to preserve the original piece of hardware first.
Restoring steel window frames and cast iron windows involves removing the glass, stripping paint, repairing damage like rust holes (often with cold stitching for cast iron), and then priming, painting, and reglazing. This process is highly specialized because cast iron is difficult to weld, making it crucial to use correct repair methods like cold stitching or professional recasting for significant damage.
