Conservation

At Wright's Heritage Glaziers we pride ourselves on upholding the correct ethics and standards.

Our Goal

To preserve the glass in its current condition and prevent further damage or decay.

Our Methods

  • Stabilizing the glass using non-invasive techniques.
  • Controlling environmental factors like light, temperature, and humidity.
  • Protecting against destructive influences.

 Example

  • Installing Environmental Protective Glazing (EPG) systems. Internal and External.
  • Using specific cleaning techniques to remove dirt without altering the original surface.

Restoration

At Wright's Heritage Glaziers we are able to provide partial to full restoration works when a stained glass window requires it.

Our Goal

To return a stained glass window to its previous or idealized appearance.

Our Methods

  • Partial to Full Releading of either a single mainlight or tracery light. To an entire east window or complete set of windows within the building it is housed.
  • Reconstructing missing parts, such as broken areas that may have occurred during maintenance or vandalism.
  • May involve removing original materials and replacing them with modern ones.

Examples

  • Releading to an east window due to the leadmatrix coming to the end of its life.
  • Vandalism to an area within a window that may require partial releading and stained glass painted repair to damaged panes.

Traditional Painting

We are able to undertake the traditional art of stained glass painting, using painted pigment powders and silver stains. This is then kiln fired to the glass surface.

Being able to undertake this traditional skill enables us at Wright's Heritage Glaziers to replicate any damaged or potentially lost panes, bringing a stained glass window back to life.

We are also proud to be able to use these skills alongside our conservation repair methods, meaning we are able to preserve a fractured pane with the correct resins and touch up areas using a cold paint enabling us to discreetly hide the damaged areas. Preserving the original piece.
